Grimsby, also known as Great Grimsby is on the north east coast of England in the country of Lincolnshire. The town is actually the administrative centre for north east Lincolnshire. Grimsby is an unusual town in so far as it has two town centres a couple of miles apart. It’s urban sprawl also spreads without break to nearby Cleethorpes, a holiday resort on the Humber Estuary, In the 1950s, Grimsby had to largest fishing fleet in the world and in is not surprising that in the 1970s it found itself in the centre of Britain’s “Cod Wars” with Iceland. Today, the fishing has practically gone, although Grimsby still processes about 70% of the country’s fish produce. There is plenty of shopping in the town centre around Victoria Street and the Freshney Place shopping centre, where many famous high street names have a presence. The town has faced down the problems associated with post industrial decline and new bars and restaurants are opening as Grimsby continues to find a new lease of life.
